The 6 best AnyList alternatives in 2026.

AnyList is one of the best shared grocery lists, and very good value. People look elsewhere when they want more from the planning side (AI help, a pantry, nutrition), a web app without paying, or something free. Here are six alternatives and the reason to pick each.

How we chose

We make Hedgehog Chef, so it's first on this list: that's our bias, stated up front, and its cons are as honest as everyone else's. The other apps are in the order we'd suggest them for this job. Everything we say about them comes from their own websites, help pages and app-store listings, checked on October 13, 2026 and linked at the end, and each entry says who should pick it instead of ours. We left out store ratings, which change daily.

What we looked at:

  • The shared list: real-time sync, aisle sorting, voice
  • What it adds that AnyList doesn't: AI planning, a pantry, nutrition
  • Recipes and meal planning without extra fees
  • Devices and the web
  • Price compared with AnyList's $14.99 a year for a household

The apps

Our app

1. Hedgehog Chef

Best for AnyList's shared list plus planning, a pantry and cook mode

Hedgehog Chef keeps what AnyList does well, a list that updates on every phone instantly with a login for each person, and builds the planning around it. The AI planner drafts the week from your recipes, the list comes from the plan sorted by aisle and minus the pantry, and the pantry tracks expiry dates and answers "What can I make?". Cook mode is full screen with voice commands.

It costs more than AnyList, and has no Apple Watch app or Alexa skill. Hedgehog Chef has no free plan: every kitchen starts with a 14-day free trial with everything included and no card, then Hedgehog Chef Plus ($5.99/month or $49.99/year, on sale soon) covers the whole household.

Pros

  • An AI planner: ask for “a week of high-protein dinners under $150” and it proposes a plan and a list from your recipes, for you to approve
  • The list sorts itself by aisle, merges amounts and skips what's already in the pantry
  • A pantry with fridge, freezer and cupboard, expiry dates, barcode scanning and “What can I make?”
  • Full-screen cook mode with that step's ingredients, tap-to-start timers, voice commands and read-aloud
  • Nutrition calculated from the ingredients with USDA data, with daily goals on the plan
  • Runs in any browser and installs like an app on iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows and Chromebook

Cons

  • No free plan: after the 14-day free trial it's Hedgehog Chef Plus ($5.99/month or $49.99/year, on sale soon)
  • Costs more than AnyList's $14.99 a year
  • No Apple Watch or Wear OS app and no Alexa skill (Siri works through Shortcuts you set up once)
  • New: launched in 2026, so it doesn't have years of track record yet

How to choose

If AnyList's list is perfect and you only want it free, OurGroceries or Listonic. If you want the planning side to do more of the work, Hedgehog Chef (AI planner, pantry) or Plan to Eat (a classic recipe planner). If you'd rather own the app outright, Paprika.

One caution: AnyList doesn't offer a bulk recipe export that we could find, so moving a big recipe collection means re-importing from the original sources.

Questions

Is there a free alternative to AnyList?

OurGroceries puts every feature in its free app (with ads), and Listonic's free tier includes real-time sharing and an AI list builder. Bring! and Out of Milk are free with ads too.

What does AnyList Complete cost?

$9.99 a year for one person or $14.99 a year for a household, billed yearly. It adds the meal planner, the web app, unlimited recipe imports, photos, scaling and prices.

Which AnyList alternative has a meal planner?

Hedgehog Chef (with an AI planner), Plan to Eat and Paprika all have full meal planners. OurGroceries, Bring! and Listonic focus on the list.

Can I move my AnyList recipes to another app?

We couldn't find a bulk recipe export in AnyList; recipes can be shared one at a time. Re-import them from their original links into Hedgehog Chef, or paste each one in.
