Turn AI features on or off
One switch in Settings › AI features turns every AI feature off for you, and our servers enforce it. Everyone in a kitchen has their own setting.

Steps
- Open Settings › AI features.
- Turn off Use AI features, and confirm with Turn off AI.
- The planner disappears, and AI imports, photo reading and new AI photos switch off for you. To turn them back on, use the same switch.
What still works with AI off
Hedgehog Chef is still a complete recipe box, meal planner, shopping list and pantry. Links to pages with recipe data still import, Fill in by hand still works for pasted text, and store prices still show. Claude and other AI apps can't use your connection while it's off.
What's sent where
- The AI planner uses Anthropic (Claude): your question and what it needs from your kitchen, like recipes, pantry, plan and diet profile.
- Reading recipes from pages without recipe data, pasted text and photos uses Anthropic (Claude); Cloudflare Workers AI reads text only if Claude is unavailable.
- Recipe photos are made by Cloudflare Workers AI from the title, ingredients and course, and nothing about you.
Neither provider trains its models on what we send. In a shared kitchen, while your AI is off, your first name and the allergies and diets you entered are left out of other members' AI requests. The details are in the privacy policy.
