Recipes

Import from text or a photo

Paste a recipe from a message or note, or photograph a cookbook page, a handwritten card or a screenshot. It's read and written up as a recipe you can check before saving.

From a photo

  1. Open Recipes › Import and choose the Photo tab.
  2. Tap Take photo or Choose photos, or drop or paste a screenshot. Add up to 6 pages of one recipe; turn, crop or reorder them if needed.
  3. Decide whether to use the photo as the recipe's picture (leave it off for cookbook pages, and a dish photo is made instead).
  4. Tap Read recipe, check what was read, then save.

On the web, iPhone and Android

On the web

On a computer, drag photos onto the drop zone or paste a screenshot.

iPhone and iPad

Photos from the iPhone camera are converted before upload. If a HEIC file is refused, export it as a JPEG and try again.

Android

Take photo opens the rear camera.

From pasted text

  1. Open Recipes › Import and choose the Text tab.
  2. Paste into Recipe text and tap Read recipe.
  3. Prefer to do it yourself? Switch to Fill in by hand and mark the title, ingredient, step and note lines; that doesn't use AI.

Good to know

Reading a photo uses Claude, so it needs AI features turned on, and each counts toward 200 AI recipe imports a day. Photos can be JPEG, PNG, GIF or WebP, up to 5 MB each.
